Location & Local Amenities
"Lindum" is located in an area of outstanding natural beauty and is within easy walking distance to the Coastal Path, beach, pub serving good food, shop, post office and church. Most of the coastline around Brancaster is owned by the National Trust and consists of miles and miles of sandy beaches. A fort stood here in Roman times, Branoduni Castra, its purpose to protect the north coast against marauding Frankish and Saxon pirates. The village was then known as Branodunum. Unfortunately, nothing now remains of the stronghold except some ditches to the east of the village and a street named Branodunum.
This is an excellent area for nature lovers and bird watchers with reserves at nearby Titchwell, Holme, Scolt Head Island and Snettisham. Other attractions include the golf course, ,sailing from Brancaster Staithe, Stately homes such as Holkham Hall, Houghton Hall and Sandringham plus the Victorian seaside town of Hunstanton. There are many good restaurants and pubs in the vicinity.
